Girls' nursery Nova
When you're proudly and gratefully expecting a little girl, you have a wonderful project waiting for you: creating a loving room to welcome your child. In Anne and Sjoerd's new-build house, there was a beautiful, bright room available: a square room measuring almost three by three meters, complete with a large window. For Tuk Make-Over, I was able to transform this room into a sweet, pink palace for their baby girl. And what a dream room it turned out to be!

A nursery full of love
A few years ago, Anne and Sjoerd found their ideal new home in Made, near Breda, in the province of Brabant. At the time, they were still living in Rotterdam and were looking for a place with more space and, above all, a garden, especially considering their desire to have children. Anne and Sjoerd also wanted to be closer to family. "A new-build house in Made, where Anne is from, came to us through a phone call from the real estate agent, and within a week we had bought it. What we loved about this house and this location was, first and foremost, the location and the size of the garden. A new-build house also really appealed to us: it's much easier to maintain and more energy-efficient than an older house, which we really appreciate. The house is situated on the edge of a new neighborhood with many young families, where young children can grow up safely."
A warm and cozy nursery
Anne and Sjoerd decided to participate in Tuk Make-Over to decorate the nursery. "Because we really wanted to create a nice space for our daughter, but neither of us has a knack for decorating a room, we decided to enlist Elina's help." Anne and Sjoerd's doubts started with choosing the room. "There are three bedrooms on the first floor of our house. We use the largest bedroom ourselves, but we had two spare rooms at the back of the house. A slightly larger room, which now houses a guest bed, and a smaller room about three by three meters.
On Elina's advice, we chose the smaller room, and knowing what we know now, we're very happy with it. It felt like a very small room with limited possibilities, but now it feels much bigger and cozy and warm, making it a wonderful place for our recently born daughter, Nova!
A bit of pink & wallpaper as wainscoting
The bright, south-facing room still had white walls and a beautiful gray cast floor as its base. Anne preferred a neutral room, but also a nice, warm space: a real girl's room. And a touch of pink was definitely welcome! To give the room warmth, I recommended using Pink Clay from Day at the Zoo on the walls. We chose "Flower Shower" wallpaper for two walls, but I challenged the couple to try something a little different. I suggested that in the high-ceilinged room, the wallpaper not go all the way to the ceiling, but rather as a high wainscoting. A pink stripe is painted above the wallpaper, which creates a very surprising and beautiful effect.
