Boy's room Joe
The boy's room of Joe, the five-year-old son of Tijs (38) and Anne (34), got a lovely makeover thanks to Tuk Make-Over. The family loves living in Alkmaar and began searching for a nice place in the city center eight years ago. Due to the tight housing market and Anne still being a student, that wasn't easy. Eventually, they found their current home just outside the city center, in a cozy new neighborhood with charming 1930s architecture. But while they love their home, they wanted to give Joe's room a fresh, inspiring boost.

A new cool boys' room
Anne decided to sign up for Tuk Make-Over because she and Tijs envisioned a real "big boy's room" for their son. "We wanted to give Joe a place where he feels comfortable, where he can play independently and unwind. Because he's so energetic, we felt it was important that his room exudes peace, space, and light. A place that truly feels like his, where he can show off his favorite toys and be himself. Participating in Tuk Make-Over felt like a great opportunity to make his room something truly special."
Get the whole family involved to create a real Joe room
Joe already knew exactly what was important to him in his new room: his cars and pets had to have a prominent place, and his books also deserved a place of honor. He even helped with painting and assembling the furniture, something he's very proud of.
In his new room, Joe has plenty of space to display his own things and books. The side of the wardrobe has playful open compartments, and a wooden shelving unit hangs next to the door. "The room now feels completely his own: he has his own little spot where he can display his favorite things in his shelving unit, and his sturdy high bed perfectly suits his age and personality. It's truly become a Joe room—playful, cheerful, and carefully decorated."
A fresh, cool boy's room
Joe, Tijs, and Anne are most pleased with the light, airy feel of the room. “It really feels like a nice place where Joe can be himself. Joe himself loves his shelving unit; he proudly displays his animals and beautiful things in it. He also loves his high bed; it really gives him a sense of being 'tough and big.' It's also really nice that there's more closet space compared to his old room. By moving a room over, there was more room for this now. What surprised us is how beautifully everything has come together. We had some ideas beforehand, but the end result exceeded our expectations.”
