Boys room Jonah

One of the best things about Tuk Make-Over is seeing happy children in their new rooms. When we arrive in Alkmaar for the photoshoot of Jonah's boy's room, the little resident is still at school. But not much later, we hear enthusiastic feet on the stairs, and Jonah comes to check on us. He's incredibly proud of his own cool boy's room. And rightly so, because the cheerful, cozy room fits him like a glove. A true Jonah room!

A cool boy's room

Arriving at Nathalie and Mathijs's house in Alkmaar already feels familiar: I've already helped them with their daughter and sister Abby 's Tuk Makeover room. And now it's Jonah's turn!

Nathalie welcomed us with a delicious lunch and then, full of curiosity, we headed to Jonah's room on the first floor of the spacious corner house. Seeing a Tuk Makeover design executed for the first time is always a treat, and Jonah's bright, spacious room turned out absolutely beautiful.

Nathalie: "Jonah turned five this year, just before we got the keys to our new house. It's the perfect age to get a cool boy's room, and that's why we were so happy with Elina's help! Jonah is super sociable, sweet, and helpful. He loves his cars, loves playing with his toy animals and dinosaurs, enjoys soccer with his best friends, and loves Pokémon cards and Ninjago."

Space for Jonah's own artwork

It was my honor to design a room that perfectly suits Jonah, with plenty of room to play and explore. When I saw his still-blank room, I immediately noticed his posters and drawings, and I wanted to do something fun with them! To further tailor the room to the little resident, I asked Nathalie and Jonah to create a mood board.

Nathalie: "Jonah and I browsed Pinterest together and put together a beautiful mood board for Elina. We wanted a cool room with enough space to display his own artwork, but also to display his animals or cars. He also really needs some alone time, so a good chill-out area was essential for his room. With a mid-height loft bed and a decent chill-out area underneath, he absolutely achieved that! He uses it as an ice cream shop, to stage a puppet show, to launch his cars, and also to 'read' books."

A surprising combination of color and wallpaper

Nathalie: "Just like with Abby 's room, I was once again surprised by the combination of colors and the different wallpapers. It's really fun to see Elina's creative mind put these combinations together and see it all come together once you get started. And Jonah was also thrilled to see that Elina had used one of the wallpapers he'd chosen for his mood board: the Essie wallpaper by Studio Pieni on the wall behind his bed. We all think the bed is the best! For Jonah, it's more than just a bed: sometimes it's a hut, sometimes an ice cream shop, sometimes a puppet theater, and other times a zoo. The cute little window and the space under the bed allow him to really let his imagination run wild."
